Merry Christmas from MLC
December 2009
Finals are coming up soon. Please pay attention to your student’s study habits to ensure your child does his or her best on the finals exams and papers, which typically make up a significant portion of a student’s overall grade. Usually, colleges will look at semester grades which are calculated from 1st and 2nd quarter grades and a final exam/paper from your child's school. Make sure to stay clean and healthy during cold season!

12/05/09 : Last SAT date for graduating seniors

12/20 - 01/03 : Learning Center Closed
College Applications Soon!
November 2009
Upcoming Dates to Remember

10/31/09 : Last day of regular registration for Dec SAT

11/30/09 : Deadline for most college applications

12/05/09 : Last SAT date for graduating seniors

Most college applications are due at the end of November. Your application is what colleges will use to “get to know you.” The personal statement portion of the application is your opportunity to let the admissions officers get to know. Your individual grades, scores, and other numbers will factor into their decision, but the personal statement is crucial to portraying yourself. It should demonstrate why you want to attend a school, and why that school should want you as a student. Showcase strengths and achievements and explain why a college aligns with your future goals. Bring your personal statements in (double spaced) with their prompts to get feedback and guidance.

Seniors, the December test date for the SAT is your last chance to take the test towards college applications. You may want to fill out your answer sheet to send scores directly to the colleges you are applying to. You can also click on “Send Score Report” from your College Board profile. Our center offers programs in classrooms and one-on-one to help you achieve a high score. Last minute intensive sessions are also available to those who are working to improve their scores
Midterms and SATs
March 2009
Please pay attention to your student’s study habits to ensure your child does his or her best on midterms, which typically make up a significant portion of a student’s overall grade.

It is time for students in grades 2 to 11 to focus on the national STAR testing! STAR tests help measure students’ achievement of state academic content standards. We are preparing all of our students for the STAR test so that each one receives his or her highest possible score.

Additionally, it is now that time of the year when sophomores and juniors (especially juniors!) should start thinking about when they are going to take their first PSAT or SAT.
